Well, we saw the gynae this evening. Things are beginning to happen.
Fiona's cervix is beginning to dilate - Dr Naylor touched the head of one of the babies in his examination!
Of more concern is that the flow of blood in Emma's placenta getting more irregular (anything below 0.6 is ok - she is at 0.79). This means that the blood flow to Emma in the placenta between heartbeats is less than it should be. This is something that was always going to happen and indicates that the time is getting close. It is now a balancing act between the blood flow in the placenta and their development. If it is left too long, she will not make it, if too short, there are the problems associated with an early birth. Dr Naylor decided not to give her steroids (to get their lungs going) as they should be ok - we saw their lungs going last week.
So we go back to Dr Naylor on Friday (unless there is a decrease in the movement of Emma in which case we can see him immediately), and we will probably be parents during the weekend or early next week.
We're obviously a little worried for Emma, but at the same time it will be exciting to have them born on 01 October - Sunday - as that is my Dad's birthday - and our wedding anniversary!!!
Watch this space! The suitcase is being packed, the cameras checked ...
