Week 10

Can you believe that it is 10 weeks since our two children were born. It has gone so quickly and yet it has taken so long - something everyone says is the experience.

All is going well - Emma has got over her pretty long-winded niggles (i.e. the growth spurt is over) and is doing a lot of sleeping. We think the heat of the last few days has been a contributing factor - it is slightly cooler today - it may even rain. so it is emma-magic at the moment. Interestingly enough, she has stopped her Emma-mergency antics to a large degree. I think we are all beginning to settle in nicely.

Daniel is as good as gold at the moment - he is eating like a horse (or is that a 10-week old baby boy?) - quire nice to see. He is taking about 160 ml at a sitting which is about 30 ml more than smaller Emma.
Daniel's swelling above his crotch seems to be getting bigger. The doctor said they can only sort it out when he is larger and able to cope with anaesthetic. It is not hurting him at all and is not impacting on anything except his parents who are slightly worried. Anyhow, he goes to the doctor this week just to check that the new swelloing is not problematic.

Mom and dad were able to go out for the farewell of our Belgian friends, Fred and Alex, on Friday night. Quite nice to get out have a bit of a party. One nice thing about a night nurse is that you don't have to go home to take the babysitter home. Okay so we were last to leave the party and it was after 2 am - first time for a long, long time.
We'll miss Fred and Alex a great deal. We met them when we came up to Johannesburg - a move that was very daunting as we had this big dangerous image of JHB in our minds. Knowing another couple that was also new to the city made it a little easier. We were also proud to introduce them to a bit of SA, especially one of the most spectacular Sardine runs we have ever seen. They could not believe the amounts of dolphins, whales and sharks that they saw. That weekend, we saw two shoals of sardines beach which was great. We'll never forget that feeling of sheer madness as we went after the slippery little fish with our bare hands. Storing the many live fish that we caught in our tucked in t-shirts was something none of us will ever forget. Anyhow, we all came to JHb as four single people and they are leaving with everyone now married and we have doubled the size of the group from 4 to 8! Not bad for five years. Fred was Stephen's best man at our wedding which was something very special too.

Yesterday we took our customary stroll, with our fancy beautiful pram, to the local shops. Had a nice chocolate milkshake and hired the DVD "Touching the Void." Enjoyed the movie - quite a nailbiter. It must rate, along with March of the Penguins, as one of those videos that make you realise the actual power of the spirit.

We are the proud owners of a brand new metallic grey VW Jetta 1.9 TDi. It has everything our old TDi had so we are happy.

Well it is two weeks to the end of basics - we have that "uitklaar" kind of feeling (guys who went to the army will know that feeling). We feel that we can handle everything but as the more experienced say - as soon as you have that feeling - the game doesn't change, the sport changes!
