Donovan and Easter Drama

The weekend started off quietly with Donovan (Fiona's cousin) joining us late on Thursday evening from Cape Town. The rain plus the weekend travel jam meant he arrived very late. He stayed the night before leaving on a month trip to Europe.

Here is a picture of the visit:

And then yesterday, Emma suddenly developed purple hands, a high temperature and a very laboured whimper. After about an hour and a very deep sleep, she made a remarkable recovery and was her old self. About 8 hours later, the purple hands returned, along with the temperature and whimper. When we thought she had momentarily stopped breathing, we rushed her through to Sandton MediClinic. They diagnosed either a cold or a urinary tract infection (after her runny stomach). The doctor prescribed an antibiotic and a suppository every six hours. Well, she recovered after about an hour. Another couple came in just after us with exactly the same symptoms on their nine month old child. We think it is the cold that is going around.

We let her sleep in the bed with us last night which was quite exhausting as she cried several times in her sleep. The first two times we woke her up and calmed her down (and then tried to convince her it was sleep time and not play time). Later we found the dummy had the same effect - only it took five seconds instead of an hour.

Today she is fine - her parents spent a lot of the day sleeping!!!

Back to work tomorrow ...
