Sunday News

Daniel asleep on his stomach in his cot

Emma stands in her cot as she calls us to take her out.

The news is good - everybody is on the mend, including Daniel whose wheeze had us worried. It is starting to disappear. We also got in a few good sleeps this weekend so we are beginning to feel human again. Fiona has a bad cough though.

Emma is starting to pull herself up into a standing position. Luckily, we lowered the floor of her cot a few weeks ago so that she could not fall out - and then this week she has started standing in her cot while crying out for us to take her out after her sleep. She is also pulling herself up at the couch and various other places which has been a little traumatic when she has slipped on the floor. So now she is wearing her first shoes - sent over by Aunty Beth in Vancouver to reduce the slipping accidents. Very useful shoes!

Daniel is also starting to crawl forwards. He still pulls himself along but is getting the hand-foot coordination quite quickly now. A matter of days now.

Emma is crawling all over the place which has helped with her boredom as now she can explore by herself. We have put in plug protectors in all the plugs and have begun moving dangerous items from low down places where little hands can get to them. It is wonderful to watch how she has become aware of the world, looking out of windows and going wherever something is happening. The lounge steps still restrict her to the lounge and the pool room (enclosed verandah next to the pool) which makes control of her easy. The only dangerous attraction is the gas heater which has been on virtually all weekend as it has been very cold - fortunately, they have designed it with a big grill that does not get hot and the flame is actually far away from the grill.

Daniel has started moving around his cot and even sleeping on his stomach. Quite unheard of as he normally stays in one position all night.
