Well, thankfully I seem to have recovered from my bad few days - thank goodness. I think both Emma and Daniel were not too sure why I hardly picked them up or gave them cuddles (not wanting to get too close and pass the virus on).
They were both in top moods this evening when I got home, and Emma climbed her personal Everest of the steps a few more times for good measure. She was on the middle one at one point, and instead of paying attention to what she was doing, was looking at Daddy for his admiration, and her hand slipped. Down she toppled, but landed on Daniel, who was lying at the bottom. They both got such a fright, but it hurt neither of them, so they soon recovered. Emma was also trying to catch my attention earlier while I was giving Daniel his porridge, and while standing up, let go of the couch by accident. It was her first fall where she landed squarely on her bottom. She shrieked and howled, but was easily placated, without me even having to pick her up for a change. Our little one is growing up!
Although they have been interested in their reflections for a while now, yesterday was the first time they really responded to themselves in the mirror. Daniel kept looking at me, as if asking why I was next to him and in front of him at the same time, and why, when I was in front of him was I holding a baby? The cogs were realy ticking over. Emma looked at me a couple of times, but really focussed her attention on the cutie in the mirror, and gave herself a couple of one-sided smiles, with a real "You lookin' good, girl!" appreciation for what she saw.
They also had 'grown' up food for the first time. As we were away the previous weekend, I had completely run out of food by Sunday, but had some left over bolognese and pasta that we had the previous night. I chopped up the pasta roughly with a spoon, and mixed the mince in. They loved it. It was the chunkiest food they have ever eaten, and although a couple of big pieces of onion were spat out, they gummed the rest, and down the hatch it went. As we couldn't get chicken or lamb mince (which is what I usually use for they food) this evening I made them their own big pot of bolognese. I am going to start cooking more of our food for them, as although they have been eating the same stuff as we do, I obviously have been preparing it separately, and differently to ours. We also couldn't get strawberries, so they are having blackberries tomorrow for the first time. As they are rather tart, they also have apple to sweeten it a bit. Will see what they think!
Have been a bit slack on the photo side of things, but will get some to post on the blog in the next couple of days. My problem now is that every time they see the camera, they crawl towards it, so there are a few really 'up close' mug shots, but nothing nice.
Happy week everyone, and to the Fullers: good luck from us for the move!
