What a lovely weekend! The weather was perfect; not too hot, but lovely and sunny the entire time.
Norose had to take her daughter to the clinic on Friday, so didn't come to work. Steve took Emma and Daniel to the creche where they have been before. Apparently Daniel was not too fussed about being in a different environment, but Emma was feeling very sensitive, and was quite weepy. She also is a very symapthetic little girl, according to them, as every time someone else cried, she joined in. They were happy to come home that evening though!
On Saturday I popped out and bought a Chicco Zanza, which is a small oval device that works off battery power, and is a mosquito repellant that works on soundwaves. I really didn't want to use the Doom type of ones that repel them with chemicals in the babies' room. Anyway, we will see how effective it is! Daniel didn't appear to get bitten last night, so that is a start.
Once they woke up from their morning nap, we packed them and everything else into the car and went off to Joburg Day. For those not in the know, it is a music concert that takes place once a year in Joburg on a big sports field. There are usually about 10 - 15 SA bands that play. we went last year as well. This year one of Steve's colleagues gave us 2 tickets as she won 4. When we arrived, the place was packed, but we found a nice spot, right at the back, on the edge of the crowd. We took our sun tent for the babies, so they had some shade. They were both quite unhappy to begin with, especially Daniel, but we had already agreed that if they weren't coping we would pack up and leave, as it wasn't costing us anything to be there. I gave them each a snack, and that calmed them down. Steve's colleague joined us with her husband, son and 3 nieces. The girls were 16, 12 and 9 and all took an instant interest in Emma and Daniel, and begged to be able to hold them, feed them, play with them, etc! Emma and Daniel both perked up when they realised that they had a captive audience, and were so good all day! We expected to leave at around 3pm, but eventually left closer to 6:30! They both had long sleeps, and were very well behaved. They loved the music, and enjoyed dancing with all of us.
Today Emma had a terribly runny nose: of course something picked up at creche! She has been pretty miserable, and tried our patience most of the day, as she was obviously feeling very sorry for herself, and just wanted to be held. Until just before bed, Daniel was in a good mood, and has been quite chatty today.
We have still not seen evidence of him being able to climb stairs, so I think that it is an urban legend! He is starting to mimic us as Emma has been doing for a few weeks now, and loves clapping his hands. he has started saying mamama when I am around, so it appears to be evidence of a first word, but could still be fluke! We will need to test that theory a bit first!
Emma makes lots of sounds, and earlier today when the cat was meowing, she started meowing too! It was hilarious! She definitely understands the concept of saying 'hello' and does so regualrly when we appear in a room. She has also started waving regularly.
It is Heritage Day next week Monday, so we are off to Durban at last, to see my family down there. We can't wait, as it has been so long since we saw everyone. 5 sleeps to go!
Time to organise bottles etc, so enjoy your week everyone!
