Daniel Survives First Night

Daniel has survived his first night at home. This is despite being surrounded by two very "not yet competent" parents.

Actually things got better as the night went on as yesterday he was feeding very little - a matter of great concern to us. But as we got over our anxiety, and he found his feet - so his degree of feeding and the amount suckled increased. A big learning curve for us.

We have put a radio in his room which seemsto havehelped a great deal - pity he had to hear about that "fool Roberts" who killed those poor innocent children in the US. But then he also heard how great Michael Schumacher is ... Viva 702 - parents sanity restored!

Fiona is very tired as she wakes up every time he murmurs, let alone cries. She is now trying to rest (morning).

Thanks to all those who have sent messages following the notices in the Pietermaritzburg and JHB newspapers. We love hearing from you!

By the way, if you're interested in a great story - read the blog that we've got the link to.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH!
I can't wait to see them! I'm so so so happy that they are feeding and that you can have them all to yourselves soon. I'm sure you will become very competent parents, so don't stress too much about not putting a nappy on properly for the first few attempts! Love to you all, give them a kiss for me?

Such precious moments - treasure them! I remember that feeling of astonishment and gratitude when I realised that Callum had survived his first night under our HUGELY incompetent care (I think it lasted for a couple of weeks actually). But don't worry they are hardier than they look, and all they really need is love, food and a cosy place to sleep. I am sure that Daniel is missing Emma (and visa versa) but hopefully you will all be reunited before too long. As good as the ICU staff may be, nothing compares to that special smell and touch of Mum and Dad!!Enjoy all of the little firsts.

Hi Fiona & Stephen,
Congratulations on the birth of the twins....i can see you are very proud parents...and rightfully so! The twins look adorable and I'm sure Emma will be home soon to complete the family. Enjoy this time....it goes by very quickly.
I will be in Joburg in January and look forward to seeing you all....till then take care and lots of love.
