This is my first post on the site, what with being in hospital and just plain exhausted for a few weeks before that. But we have taken some lovely photos and have had a super day with Daniel.
What started out as a very bad sleepless morning, I finally crashed on the bed for a good couple of hours sleep while Daniel was asleep, and Steve was on Daddy duty. I was pleased when I work up to find that Steve had also managed a little snooze, so we were both feeling a little bit human! We decided that Daniel had a bad night because he was lonely, as it was the first time he had ever slept alone, so we put a radio in his room, and he had some really good 4 hours sleeps today! He also ate really well, so neither of us are as concerned as we were yesterday. This evening at 7, he broke his own record and downed a whole 55ml of milk in one go! So, he must be very full right now!
We also went to see Emma today and I got tearful as always, but was able to have a really good cuddle with her before her evening feed. The Paed has increased her feeds to 35ml a time, so that works out to quite a lot over several feeds. I spoke to our Paed while we were there, and he is very happy with her progress. He has said that as soon as she can maintain her own body temperature for a couple of days outside of her incubator, he will be happy to consider her homecoming date. In the meantime, the Neo-Natal Unit is looking after her very well and apparently she is a demanding little feeder who finishes all her bottles! Good Girl!
All in all we are feeling a lot more relaxed, and I think are both a bit surprised at how quickly that feeling has crept in. Daniel can definitely sense that we are able to look after him, and has also relaxed a lot. We took him with us to see his sister, and he was good as gold and slept through the entire thing! Lets hope he does a lot of sleeping in the next few months and years...
It is now definitely time for me to go to bed, as Steve is on duty for the next 2 feeds and I will pick up the early morning ones tomorrow.
These two photos below are of Steve holding Daniel yesterday when we got home, and me holding Emma today in ICU.
