Well, I'm on night duty again - Daniel is sleeping in my arms as I type with one hand (ok - I admit to never getting the two handed typing thing right).
The three days between the night nurse helping out must rate as the longest three days in history - although they fly past in an exhausted haze.
This weekend, we did our usual Saturday walk to the nicest shopping area in our area - with our massive 4 x 4 pram (which gets lots of admiring looks). Did some shopping, had a nice milkshake to cool us down and then walked home.
On Sunday, we chose to go to the local Pick 'n Pay as it is a lot closer and as it was so hot. Well - after buying our newspaper and a few other things, Fiona (or was it me) decided that we should buy two chocolate eclairs - an impulsive buy. The five members of staff behind the bakery counter seemed not to see us as we waited to put our order in - a warning we should have heeded and walked away. But we hung in and eventually asked if someone was going to serve us. They did and off we went home with our eclairs for tea. My eclair was delicious but Fiona's had been around for a few days and so she got sick. On Monday morning she was still sick and so I stayed at home to help out. At about lunchtime Fiona started to perk up and then guess what happened - the late nights, chocolate eclair and too much work (that part put in for my boss - are you impressed?) started to count and so I got all sick. Well, the arrival of Norose was very welcome at 7pm as we were both on our last legs. A little "Gray's Anatomy" and we were off to bed at 08:30. Today, we are feeling better.
Daniel saw his urologist to look at the lump in his groin. Appears it is a hernia - quite a common thing in babies. Anyhow, his size makes the relatively minor operation to correct the hernia a little risky so as it is not hurting him, it will be delayed for the time being. Wejust need to watch out for any sign that it has caught his innards in it as that is dangerous. Nothing to worry about.
Otherwise, everything is going well. Both babies are eating well. They absolutely love falling asleep in our arms or on our chests - to the extent that we battle to put them down as they protest. Daniel is starting to get sharper with Emma always a few days behind as she is so much smaller) about 400 grams behind.
Tomorrow they get their jabs which means they will unleash the "mother of all cries" on us tomorrow night. Luckily Norose is on duty. And then on Friday, we fly by the new low-cost airline, Mango, to Durban to Erin's 21st birthday party. Could be interesting but we have some tricks to keep them quiet on the plane.
Daniel is quite the traveller - he will have been to three airports by Friday night - Johannesburg International, Oliver Tambo International and Durban International - ok you caught me out Joburg and Oliver Tambo are the same place - they just changed the names in-between the visits of his Royal Highness Daniel James!

It's much easier to call it Oliver Thambo International, OR Thambo is a bit of a tongue twister.
