The History of Daniel and Emma in the Roberts Line

We chose the name “Daniel” as it is one of the Roberts family names in South Africa.

Our ancestor, Daniel James Roberts arrived aboard the Aurora in Algoa Bay on 15 May 1820. He originally came from Wales where he was born in 1781. After living as a preacher in the Eastern Cape, he died in 1844.

The name was then given to a number of Roberts sons thereafter:

· Daniel James Roberts II (born 1807)
· Daniel James Roberts III (1834-1884)
· Daniel James Roberts IV (1896–1961)
· Daniel James Roberts V (born: 1924)
· Daniel Ronald Newland Roberts VI (born 1952)
· Daniel Roberts VII (born 1990)

Our Daniel is thus Daniel James Roberts VIII (born 2006). He is an eighth generation South African.

Emma is also a name that features in the history of the Roberts family. Emma Bevans Kotze (nee Roberts) was the grandchild of Daniel James Roberts III. Emma Fiona Gray was born in 1986 – the great-grandchild of Daniel James Roberts IV.

Our Emma is thus the third Emma in the Roberts line in South Africa.
