Yesterday morning, they woke up at after 09:00 which was wonderful as we felt as though we had had a really great sleep-in. This morning, Emma woke up at 8am and Daniel had to be woken up to be fed before we departed for Andrew's christening.
The twins are getting nice and big. Next week, we will be moving them into their own cots so the one that wakes up first does not get to kick the other anymore. we'll have more on their weights later in the week.
On Saturday, we spent a wonderful afternoon in the garden. Andrea - our Canadian friend visited us while waiting for her flight back to London. A nice relaxing day.
Today we attended the Christening (second one in a week) of Andrew Coventry. The ceremony was very nice. We were impressed with the church and the service (demonstrated by the fact that they have five packed services every Sunday). We then went to the Coventry household and spent the day eating, eating and eating! Everyone seems to have young children so there was lots to watch and talk about (what did we talk about before babies)? Daniel and Emma were very well behaved and the recipients of lots of attention (as usual).
I found it interesting to hear people mention what a Supermom Fiona is. We know that bringing up twins is a real handful but when they are your first children you don't really know any different. One gets significant perspective when you hear several different people at different occasions marvel at how much Fiona gets done while holding down a pretty demanding job and looking after twins. She is, for example, making all her own "purity", has managed to knit a whole lot of squares for a big blanket for charity and has made "sleeping bag clothes" for the cold winter nights in the months ahead. This is in addition to managing to have bottles and food made for every day (and night), and all the other things moms do. Well done Super Mom, we do appreciate it. Caroline of course also deserves an accolade for doing a lot of the cooking at night. The extra pair of hands does take off some pressure.
Fiona's boss has agreed that she can attend a secretary's conference at Sun City later in May. Her friend at work, Dianne will be going too so they should have lots of fun - and a nice break.
Well, this is one of those weeks that feels great as on Wednesday night, we leave for a seven day holiday to the south coast. It will be an interesting experience as it will be the first time that the twins travel long distance. It will also be the first time that we (FEDS) stay in a motel (Harrismith on the way down), and it will be the first time that we drive long distance with our brand new trailer (we saved R50,000 on a car with a bigger boot for holidays by buying a trailer for R8.000 instead).Looks like the trailer could be travelling unlicenced as we (the company that I bought the trailer from) cannot get a licence issued for love or money as the new government electronic licencing system has not worked for over a week. The word is that the backlog will be so large once it comes back online that ordinary people like us will get the last spots.
One disadvantage about leaving on Wednesday night will be that the Cricket World Cup semi-final between South Africa and Australia will be on. Hopefully that will keep all traffic police indoors! We should be at our destination to watch the end of the match. We really hope South Africa pulls everything out of the bag for the match.
On Saturday we will be travelling inland to Hilton and the Curry's Post to witness Craig and Renee's wedding which will be nice. Seeing everyone will be great!
Otherwise we are looking forward to beach, sun and sand - plus walks in the early morning to look for shells. A much needed break as we are pretty exhausted.
