Mid-week words

Whew did I miss my family while I was away - but on the other hand, it was great to have a break from the day to day routine. Steve coped admirably well on his own, even though on the Monday night they both kept him awake.

The conference was good. I was surprised, however, that as it was a secretarial and office professional's conference, there wasn't more hands on, practical advice. The majority of the speakers were motivational speakers, and in my opinion varied in quality from exceptional (there were three), down to absolutely shocking (there was one in that category!).

There was some rather inspirational stuff, but the best part for me was getting to know a whole lot of other Sasol secretaries that I speak to every week virtually, but have never met in the more than four years of working there!

I came away from it determined to reach a couple of personal goals by the end of this year, and have already started putting one of them into play.

Sun City was warm when we arrived there, but became (as with the rest of the country this week) progressively colder, until we were all wearing scarves and at least 2 jerseys or jackets! There were about 560 secretaries attending the conference (including a small handful of men).

My news this week other than that, is that I am about to trade my present car in for a bigger, newer one. Steve and I went to look at one that the dealership had found for me, and I test drove it last Saturday. I have decided that is definitely the car for me, so hopefully within the next week it will be mine! As the motor plan on it has expired, it is being sold for a ridiculous price. They have also offered me a pretty good trade in price on my Ikon, so I will be able to put a third of the price down as a deposit. I had finished paying off my car earlier this year anyway and was planning on getting another one. But the urgency of the situation suddenly hit me when I noticed that Daniel has virtually outgrown his little car seat that he is currently using, and will very soon need a new one. That means that as soon as he goes into a big seat, I will need to take the pram base (wheels), as well as the bigger pram seats where ever I go! Now, the bigger size pram seats and the wheels can't all fit into my present car's boot. Problem!!! Anyway, my new one has a massive boot, so will be able to fit it all in at least!

The babies' colds are clearing up, and as neither of them were really sick, Steve and I decided not to take them to the doctor. They are both coughing, but it is not causing them any discomfort, and appears to mainly affect them when they are sleeping. Last night we put them in several layers of clothing, including a padded jumpsuit over the lot, and that kept them nice and cosy last night, ensuring that Daniel went back to sleeping through. Emma on the other hand, had me up a good 5 times - 2 for bottle (she had her own bottle as well as half of the one I make for Daniel just in case), and the rest for that infernal dummy! Steve is back on duty tonight, so knowing his luck, they will both sleep through again - I do hope so!

We are both getting very excited, as the family are all about to start arriving for the babies baptism at the beginning of June. Mum and John arrive this Sunday from England. They will stay with us for about 10 days, which will be amazing. They haven't seen them since they were a miniscule 1 month old, so I think will both be quite delighted to see how they have really become little people since then! Then the day before the baptism, my family from Durban all arrive, as well as my Aunt and Uncle from Stellenbosch (they have yet to meet their great-niece and nephew!). I haven't seen them since our wedding, so it will be awesome having them here.

Better get to bed - it is long past my bed time! Enjoy the rest of the week.
