We left for Durban on Friday afternoon, but the mass exodus of Joburgers leaving the city made it impossible to hurry anywhere, so it took us a little over 2 hours to leave Joburg! Ridiculous, when it normally takes no more than 45 minutes.
The traffic was very heavy all the way to Durban, which also meant slower speeds, and 8 1/2 hours, we finally reached our desitnation a little after 12:30 at night. The babies were so good, and only moaned a little bit. Emma slept most of the way, but it seemed a little tough on Daniel.
We put their cots up and got them into bed as soon as possible. Daniel made an already late night even later, as he just wouldn't settle down. Eventually at some stage after 3am I resorted to a little bit of paed panado and that calmed him. They woke at 9am, which was great.
They were rather off colour for most of the weekend, especially Emma. She was still a little sick, but she was so shy, and wouldn't go to anyone else. We had a bad day with her on Monday as she had a bit of an upset tummy as well as vomiting all her supper, but that seemed to help whatever was bugging her.
It was so fabulous seeing my family again (the last time was a bit over three months ago), and also to see the amazing changes they have made to their new house, which was quite run down when they bought it. It is high up and has marvelous views, and looks really great now. And at least Daniel chilled quickly, and was happy to go and sit with Granny, Grandpa and his aunties. Emma was not as obliging, but did have a few brief sits on other people's laps.
They were also spoilt for an early birthday, with beautiful wooden puzzles, placemats for the table, and an awesome inflatable paddling pool with a slide, a 'deep end' a hoop to practise the basketball skills, and a flower shower! I can't wait for it to be warm enough to use it, as I think there will be space for me in there too as it is about 2m each way! I am having a few friends over for tea tomorrow afternoon, so was hoping it would be warm enough, but alas... it is raining, so will be cool tomorrow.
The weather in Durban also didn't play ball, and the cool we are experiencing here in Joburg, was in Durban when we were there! We even had a bit of rain, so we didn't go to the sea at all.
Our trip back was a lot easier, as the there was not very much traffic on the roads. The babies were also very good, and I think they are beginning to understand about travelling, which is good experience for them. We stopped at Wimpy to feed them, and they were given balloons. Those kept them occupied most of the way back, which was great. They are still playing with the one today.
When we arrived home, Daniel decided it was time to climb stairs, so he did! He was very chuffed with himself, and crowed about it for quite a bit. He has reached a new level of confidence as he is now able to roam the house, instead of being restricted to the lounges only. Today Emma decided that she can go down stairs on her own. She has been able to for a while, but needs one of us to go and sit at the steps to help her if she needs us, but tonight she didn't need us.
Bedtime for me, as everyone else is already in bed!
