We went to the clinic after work today to have their chickenpox vaccinations administered. Daniel was a trouper, and although the bottom lip quivered, he didn't cry. Emma let out a thin little wail that lasted all of 2 seconds. My brave little ones!
They were also weighed and measured. Emma has put on 150g, so is now at 8,15kg. She has grown about 3 cm in a month (!!) and now is about 74.6cm in length. Daniel has only gained 50g, so is now at 9,9kg. That is fine, as he put on over 500g last month. His length is somewhere over 76cm, but we are not really sure, as the chart is too short and we have run out of cms!
Next jabs are at 15 months so we have a nice reprieve.
Their clingy phase seems to be over, for now. Emma is still a little wimpery if someone else takes her, but she is so much better. At least she is back to playing on her own or with Daniel without too much fuss. Their bedtime routine also seems to be quite strong, as she only moans for a couple of seconds, before lying down and going to sleep. Daniel plays with his blanket, or a toy for a short while, and fell asleep last night wrapped around a soft toy elephant. Emma's new trick is to drop things over the side of her cot, and then peer over the edge as they disappear. I kept giving her a toy last night, and she kept tossing it. All cause and effect learning happening!
They are begining to understand basic commands, and when we say 'up-up' they put up their arms to be picked up. They definitely understand when they are doing something wrong, especially Emma. When we are eating supper, she sidles over and tries to touch the edge of our plate. If she succeeds, she then leans (on tip toes) in and grabs whatever food is closest. When we tell her not to do it, or move her hand away, she looks at us sideways and does it again and again!
We are (excitingly) starting to plan for an overseas trip next year. We have very good friends in belgium, who we miss terribly, and are planning on seeing them fora couple of days before going to Steve's relatives in The Netherlands. After that we will go and stay with my Mum and John in England for a while. Although the babies will need passports for this trip, I was relieved to discover that they will not need Schengen visas.
