I think I've said this before: each day seems like an hour, each week seems like a day and each month seems like a week. Where is time going? Is life really getting faster? The net result is that we have not updated the blog for a day, no hang on a week has passed already.
A good place to start is the weather - man is it nice to have warm spring weather. Except over the weekend, the wind got colder and colder and yesterday morning it was winter again (until 11am anyway). So now it is back to spring.
Well today Fiona was the guest speaker at the launch of the Spar Ladies 10 km race to raise funds for CANSA. she shared the podium with Edith Venter. Quite a big thing for someone who a few years ago would not speak in public! Anyhow, it seems to have gone very well with an offer to do an article in a magazine in January. She is becoming a real celeb. We are very proud of her.
The twins are doing well. Both are drooling very heavily which means more teeth. Tonight Emma was very tired and listless - playing very little and preferring just to lie on my lap until she fell asleep just before bedtime. Daniel is his usual self - full of fun and action. Hy well - going exactly round corners at top speed. Of course the falls happen but they seem to be part of the game now. Daniel has discovered apples and will happily spend an evening chewing on half an apple. Nice to see.
The big treat every night is a tub of yoghurt - while we eat dinner. Man do they love that. Emma has quite a ritual going - she eats most of the yoghurt herself before handing it to me to help her clean out the last remnants. The tub is then taken and banged upside down on the coffee table to leave a nice yoghurt imprint all over the table. This is then cleaned up with great vigour before banging the tub again to repeat it all. Quite funny to watch.
We bought them a cheap, junior scaletrix type toy on Saturday. It amounts to set of squares which can be put together in a number of configurations to give you different tracks. The cars (which are battery powered and have a pilot wheel) then run in grooves. Well Mom and Dad loved the toy when we saw it, and gave it to them when we got home. Daniel immediately grabbed the toy airplane (he has a fixation for airplanes) and the toy car and pushed them around the floor for the rest of the weekend. Later we showed them how the grooves work and they showed about a minute of appreciation before grabbing the car and airplane to play with again. Oh well, at least they are getting joy out of it.
On Sunday, we went to my aunt and uncle's for lunch to see my cousin Gavin who is out visiting with his wife Sam and son Thomas from London. Thomas is about two months younger than our two. Gavin has just handed his Masters Thesis for Philosophy at the University of London - very interesting career change for a qualified CA! He is now hoping to work three days and do some more studies in the remaining two or so days a week. Anyway, it was nice to see everyone. Daniel was out and about virtually immediately and Emma only warmed up and got off our laps just before we left. She gets very shy in crowds whereas Daniel is the exact opposite. Interesting to watch. Oh a tea party was the thing that finally got her going - typical girl!
Ooh yes! One thing I'm really enjoying is the ability to bond with them Often in the morning while getting dressed I look up to see some loving eyes watching me and I'm immediately rewarded with a grin. We often also get grins from across a room or while sitting together which also warms the heart.
On Saturday afternoon, I was watching the Boks finally beat Australia. Mom gave Emma and I chips - each in our own bowls. I casually moved my hand into Emma's bowl and stole a chip. She of course objected, and I returned it with a big grin (ok I lie - I ate it with a grin). Anyhow, a few minutes later, a little hand quietly wonders over the edge of my bowl and steals a chip from me. When she got caught, it was a big grin. Soooo nice!
Speaking of that - we are just so amazed at how much a boy Daniel is and how much a girl Emma is. They are attracted to such different things without much prompting. Daniel loves cars and things that fly and go round whereas Emma shows interest in far more girly things. Interesting.
This week they are doing spring at creche and so we had leaves drawn on their faces when they came home last night. After this week, they get into a clothes theme. Nice to see such good teaching happening - we can certainly see the difference in their behaviour as a result. Quite scary though as little undesirable things (nothing yet) also come in from the other children - although nothing significant yet.
Congratulations to Kevin and Beth on their new house. Looks really fantastic. Enjoy!
Good night! I'll get Fiona to put some new photos that we took over the weekend on tomorrow night.
